To find the causes leading to ash blocking failure in a boiler air preheater, an analysis is performed on the layout and ammonia injection rate of its SCR system, sulfur content in the coal, and soot blowing way of the air preheater, etc., after which the failure is found to be caused by high ammonia escape rate of the denitration system, and subsequently corresponding countermeasures are put forward. Operation practice shows that the ash blocking problem can be solved by adopting the assistant catalyst WO3, controlling the ammonia escape rate of SCR system, the temperature of reactor, and the yield of SO3, optimizing the soot blowing approach of the air preheater, and improving the material quality for low-temperature heating surfaces.
