    For a 1 000 MW ultra supercritical steam turbine, the finite element method is used to verify the correctness of the internal surface temperature of inner cylinder instead of the outer surface temperature of rotor in the thermal stress monitoring and control. Using Inertial element method, difference method, finite element method, the volume average temperature of the high pressure rotor and the temperature of the rotor center are calculated in cold start, warm start, hot start and very hot start process, and the accuracy analysis of calculation of the temperature difference is completed. The accuracy and popularization of inertial element method is verified, the technical routes for application in other types of large capacity steam turbine rotor thermal stress monitoring and control are given.

    An introduction is being presented to the basic principles of steam flow measurement using orifice plate, as well as the necessity of steam temperature and pressure compensation in the measurement. Various compensation calculation methods for superheated steam flow measurement, commonly used in industrial turbine unit, are proposed, of which their influences on flow measurement errors are evaluated with actual examples. One of the methods may be chosen for calculation of temperature and pressure compensation according to specific precision requirements and software module function of the system in actual steam flow measurements.

    Regarding the sootblowing optimization for air preheaters, a method has been proposed to determine the start time of sootblowing based on calculated cleanness factors. Specific calculation way of cleanness factor has been deduced, while relationship between the cleanness factor and actual heating surface contamination analyzed. An optimized sootblowing system has been developed, by monitoring the variation of cleanness factor, so as to determine when to start or stop the sootblowing operation.

    Taking the governing & protecting system of a domestic 135 MW turbine as an example, the functions of control orifice, safety orifice and experiment orifice in the system are described. Some common faults in the turbine governing & protecting system caused by orifice are introduced, including the low EH oil pressure, sudden shut off of HP governing valve in normal operation, abnormal latching of turbine unit, sudden shut off of the valve during testing period and frequent switching of feed pump turbines governing valve. So, great attention shall be paid to the correctness of the orifice installation & commissioning.

    A study has been carried out to analyze the effects of steam turbine cold-end parameters on the thermal efficiency and operation economy of the power plants thermodynamic system. Combined with the practical project, the cold-end design optimization for 2×1 000 MW ultra supercritical steam turbines has been described. The ways of reducing condenser pressure, temperature difference and terminal difference have been analyzed based on relevant principles. The design optimization and resulting effects for the condenser pressure and circulating water pumps configuration have been introduced with examples.

    Taking the AGC of a 600MW unit in Guangan Power Plant as an example, the AGC index and AGC block diagram being operated in the thermal power unit have been described. In view of the problems exposed after AGC being put into operation, four aspects like the operation rate, regulation capacity, response speed, regulation accuracy have been perfected. Experimental results prove that the optimized AGC system can meet the requirements of performance regulation.

    In view of the great effect of the performance of distributed control system against the operational reliability of the power unit and combined with the 2 projects in India, the deficiency of the function, configuration and operation of PKS R210 DCS system has been described. The upgrading of the controller and the optimization of the software have been carried out in the following project and the control system has been renewed to Honeywell R310. The practice shows that the measures adopted have improved the security, reliability and efficiency of the system.

    The application of FCS 165 control system, which is based on Profibus-PA and Profibus-DP fieldbus technologies and used in the assistant control system for a domestic 660 MW supercritical power unit, has been introduced. The fieldbus device management software, which has possessed functions of fault diagnosis and maintenance management, will make the maintenance simpler and easier and also greatly reduce the costs of operation & maintenance. At the same time, the problems occurring in application have been analyzed briefly and the countermeasures for future application have been put forward.

    In view of existing periodic triggering diagnosis as the fault-shooting expert system in power plant, a fault-located self-diagnosis expert system based on the alarm triggering has been put forward. Based on different types of faults and their symptoms obtained from analysis on faults mechanism, a reasonable diagnosis pattern has been established by analytic hierarchy process. Finally a whole system has been composed by different modules of software. The expert system may serve as a reference for on-line fault-diagnosis of power plants.

    By using the optimal control theory and the scheme of stepping search for the self-optimizing control, an optimal air-fuel ratio is determined through relation curves between thermal efficiency and air coefficient of boiler under various operating conditions at different loads, so as to achieve a complete burning of fuel and optimal thermal efficiency of boiler.

    A series of tests were carried out to study the notch sensitivity of TP310HCbN steel after aging treatment. Comparison results show that the notch sensitivity of TP310HCbN steel is relatively small after long-term high-temperature operation, but its plasticity reduces obviously after aging tests.

    The structure of the thrust bearing and its installation technology have been introduced for a Three Gorges ALSTOM unit. Some problems existing in the traditional stress adjustment of the thrust bearing have been illustrated. An improved technology, which was successfully implemented to the stress adjustment of the thrust bearing in the 5F unit of the plant, has been put forward. The result shows that the new technology has improved the work efficiency, adjustment quality, and the stress uniformity of the thrust bearing as well.

    Aiming at the tail duct vibration problem occurring in the boiler for a DG1900/25.4-II2 super critical unit, a series of experiments, analyses and calculations have been carried out, after which the vibration is found to be mainly caused by high-frequency resonance resulted from very closeness of the Karman vortex shedding frequency to the acoustic wave frequency of the equipment. The vibration could be eliminated by installing an anti-vibration baffle plate.

    Regarding the hot air supply for coal mills during plasma oil-free ignition of the boiler in large thermal power units, it is pointed out that the hot air can be obtained directly from the hot primary air system of neighboring boiler or by making the high temperature steam from neighboring boiler go through a fan heater. Following two arrangements of air heater are analyzed: one is directly arranged in hot air duct, another is in the bypass of hot air duct. The latter arrangement is more practical due to its minor resistance to the system.

    In view of the thrust pad wear of main oil pump only in the negative differential expansion mode, an analysis on the thrust pad wear of main oil pump has been carried out in the positive differential expansion mode. Combined with the coupling structure of main oil pump, the cause of the thrust pad wear has been found in the positive differential expansion mode based on the analysis of axial motion of main oil pump. The results of analysis tally with the practical data from living example. Some suggestions to avoid thrust pad wear have been put forward simultaneously.

    In view of the problem of turbine oil deterioration, combined with many cases of turbine oil failure and also the introduction of turbine oil function & quality index, the reasons of turbine oil deterioration have been analyzed throughout the whole process of the turbine oil system, including the design, manufacture, construction, installation and service of the system, after which corresponding precautions are put forward, so as to provide an important basis for the management of turbine oil.
